Start here: choose your exam board, then select Foundation or Higher. Work through complete papers under timed conditions and use the mark scheme afterwards to identify where marks were gained or lost.

How to Use GCSE Maths Past Papers Effectively

Past papers are most useful once you have revised the main topics. Start by completing a paper without notes and under realistic time pressure. Mark it carefully, record the topics where you lost marks, revise those topics and then return to another paper.

  1. Choose the correct exam board and tier.
  2. Complete a full paper under timed conditions.
  3. Use the official mark scheme to analyse mistakes.
  4. Revise weak topics before attempting the next paper.

Foundation or Higher?

Make sure you practise the tier you are entered for. Foundation and Higher papers assess different ranges of content and grades, so mixing the two can make revision less focused.
